WASHINGTON (August 16, 2017) By calling the treatment of Neo-Nazis and white supremacists "unfair,” Trump revealed what his revolving door of rhetoric failed to conceal—a leaning toward radical right ideology.

As the nation's oldest and largest association of African American lawyers, judges and legal professionals, the members of the National Bar Association will not remain silent in the face of the clear and present danger presented by an apparent sympathizer of the white nationalist movement in the White House.

The Washington Bar Association Named Voluntary Bar of the Year During D.C. Bar Celebration of Leadership
The D.C. Bar’s annual Celebration of Leadership on June 14, 2017 will feature a new award: Voluntary Bar of the Year. Taking home the inaugural award will be the Washington Bar Association (WBA) for its extensive community work over the past year, from its programming and networking events to its outreach in neighborhoods in the District of Columbia.

"Raising the Bar" Mentorship Program
The WBA Young Lawyers Division Raising the Bar Initiative is sponsoring the Raising the Bar Mentorship Program for the July 2017 bar exam. This mentorship program is designed for recent law graduates preparing for the bar examination.

There is no minimum time requirement involved with mentoring. Mentors and mentees will be matched based on a set of established criteria, including the state where the mentee is sitting for the bar examination. The mentee and mentor will establish the parameters for the mentoring relationship. The mentoring relationship officially concludes.

AFTER bar examination results are released. Mentors and mentees are encouraged to stay in touch beyond the examination process.
Types of assistance offered to mentees include but is not limited to:

WBA Voting Rights Forum and Voter Registration Drive A Huge Success!


The Washington Bar Association registered over 60 individuals to vote in Southeast, Washington, DC. Recently, the WBA partnered with the Community Church of Washington, DC, located in Southeast, to host the WBA's Knowledge Is Power 2-Day Voting Rights Forum and Voter Registration Drive on October 1st and 2nd.

The Voting Rights Forum panelists were Rudolph McGann, Staff Attorney at DC Board of Elections; Marcia Johnson Blanco, Co-Director of the Lawyers’ Committee’s Voting Rights Project;  Edward Hailes, Jr., General Counsel and Managing Director of the Advancement Project; and Trevor Reaves, Partner at The Reaves Firm, LLC.
