The Washington Bar Association, Inc. (WBA) congratulates our very own

Judge J.P. Howard III

on his Senate confirmation to become an

Associate Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals

Judge Howard is an ardent WBA supporter and currently serves on the WBA’s Board of Directors as Chair of the WBA’s Judicial Council Division.

He is the youngest judge ever nominated to the DC Court of Appeals.

Judge Howard has served as an ALJ for the past seven years, across two local administrative courts where he has presided over nearly two thousand cases. He began his career as a judicial law clerk to Chief Judge David C. Simmons (Ret.), of the D.C. Commission on Human Rights, and the Honorable Alexander Williams, Jr. (Ret.), of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Judge Howard also spent several years in private practice, initially at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld LLP, as a member of its first class of Pro Bono Scholars, and as a solo practitioner in Texas.

The WBA is proud to have endorsed Judge Howard. Known for his commitment to diversity and his dedication to the D.C. community, Judge Howard is a member of the 2021 National Bar Association 40 under 40, individually honored for service. He was recognized by the American Bar Association as one of the top 40 young lawyers in America in 2017 and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Judge Howard is a proud graduate of Howard University and the Georgetown University Law Center.

Please join the WBA in saluting Judge Howard on this outstanding accomplishment.
