Abi Omolafe

Howard University
School of Law

Abi Omolafe is a third-year law student at Howard University School of Law. Born in Ondo State, Nigeria, Abi immigrated to the United States at the age of 12 following the loss of both her parents. Adopted by her grandmother, Abi’s early experiences instilled a deep sense of resilience, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to uplifting underserved communities. Even as a teenager, Abi demonstrated her passion for advocacy by working with orphans and foster youth, and later by competing in the Miss America Scholarship Organization, where she helped raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Her desire to be a voice for the voiceless inspired her to pursue a legal career dedicated to equity and justice.

Abi earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Legal Studies, with minors in History and Dance, from California State University, Long Beach. There, she excelled as an oral advocate, earning recognition as a First Amendment Scholar. She also competed in Moot Court competitions, further cultivating her skills in persuasive advocacy. Her academic distinction earned her membership in the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society.

Throughout her undergraduate studies, Abi supported herself by working at the Disneyland Resort—an experience that taught her the value of discipline, resilience, and teamwork. After graduation, she continued to build on that foundation by working in the electric vehicle industry with two pioneering startups, Rivian and Fisker. There, she honed her analytical and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, innovative environments.

At Howard University School of Law, Abi has continued her legacy of leadership and service. A proud Merit Scholar and recipient of the Howard Public Interest Law Society (HPILS) Scholarship, she currently serves as an Associate Solicitations & Submissions Editor on the Howard Law Journal. She has also held multiple leadership positions, including Parliamentarian (2023) and Justice (2024) of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, as well as Parliamentarian of Epsilon Sigma Iota Sorority, Inc. (2024).

In recognition of her academic excellence and commitment to public interest, Abi was selected as a 2025 John Paul Stevens Fellow, and she will serve as a 2025 Dean’s Fellow. This fall, she will join the Howard Civil Rights Clinic, where she will engage in advanced appellate and Supreme Court advocacy on pressing civil rights issues. Abi began her involvement with the Washington Bar Association in her first year of law school and went on to become the Vice-Chair and now the Chair-Elect of the Law Student Division.

Abi’s dedication to justice has also led her to impactful experiences in the judiciary. She has served as a Judicial Intern for both the Honorable Evan J. Wallach of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Honorable John P. Howard III of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. In Summer 2025, she is continuing her service to her community as a legal intern at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. With an unwavering commitment to community empowerment and constitutional advocacy, Abi Omolafe is devoted to building a legal career that centers equal justice, accountability, and access for all.
