Over the past three decades, the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) campaign has united communities, companies, and individuals into the nation’s largest breast cancer movement.
These 3- to 5-mile noncompetitive walks provide a supportive community for courageous breast cancer survivors and people living with metastatic breast cancer, caregivers, and families alike.

WBA Upcoming Events
The Wone Conference brings together judges and former clerks to provide law students from underrepresented communities with information about clerkships and internships in a variety of courts. There will be four panels of judges from (1) federal and state appellate courts, (2) federal district courts, (3) state trial and superior courts, and (4) administrative and specialty courts. Distinguished panelists will include, among many others, Judge Florence Y. Pan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Judge Ana C. Reyes of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and Judge Armando O. Bonilla of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
This year’s conference will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 9 am to 3:30 pm (with breakfast served from 8 to 9 am) at Georgetown University Law Center (McDonough Hall, 600 New Jersey Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001). Law students are invited to attend this conference, free of charge.

Pathways to the Bench: Judicial Nominations 101
Alliance for Justice’s Building the Bench initiative is partnering with the Washington Bar Association, the DC Bar, the Hispanic Bar Association of DC, and the Washington Council of Lawyers on Wednesday, October 18th at 3:00 PM EST to host an event aimed at educating criminal justice attorneys about pathways to the federal bench. As the Biden administration has committed to prioritizing experiential diversity on the bench, we want to ensure the broadest possible pool of attorneys has a comprehensive understanding of the federal nominations process and is as prepared as possible to position themselves as candidates for judgeships. As you know, judges with a background in criminal legal reform are quite underrepresented in our courts, which is why we are organizing this information session for criminal justice focused attorneys who may be interested in pursuing a federal judgeship.
This will be a confidential, off the record conversation to demystify the process, answer questions, and encourage folks to consider a future on the bench.
Please join us on Wednesday, October 18 at 3:00 PM EDT over Zoom to hear from speakers Judge Richard F. Boulware, United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada and Judge Jamal Whitehead, United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. Panelists will give their insights on how judges get nominated, including commissions, timelines, and the ABA process, as well as discuss how judicial candidates should work with the White House, Senate (or in some cases House) offices, Department of Justice, and outside organizations. DC Refers
DC Refers was created to increase access to justice for people of modest means in the District of Columbia. Many people in the District of Columbia earn too much to qualify for free legal services from pro bono lawyers or nonprofit legal aid providers, but do not earn enough to afford the rates that most lawyers charge for their services. People whose income falls between 200-400% of the federal poverty guidelines often have limited or no option to obtain legal assistance. We seek to fill that justice gap.
DC Refers invites lawyers with at least two years of experience in their practice area to apply to join our online directory of reduced fee lawyers. Attorneys who join our directory are not required to accept any particular client referral. But if they do accept a client who qualifies for a reduced rate, the lawyer may not charge the client more than $150 per hour. Of course, clients who do not qualify for a reduced rate may be charged the attorney’s normal rate.
