2022 Law Day Dinner

Make plans to join us on Saturday, May 7 at the stunning Conrad Washington DC for our Annual Law Day Dinner, hosted by the Washington Bar Association, Inc. and the Washington Bar Association Educational Foundation, Inc. This signature black-tie event is a time-honored tradition in the Washington DC legal community whose return has been long awaited. This year we will celebrate the legacy of Black legal excellence that is synonymous with the Washington Bar Association. Highlights of the evening will include scholarship presentations to deserving law students as well as conferral of the prestigious Charles Hamilton Houston Medallion of Merit. Our distinguished honorees for 2022 are Paulette Brown, Esquire and Genna Rae McNeil, Ph.D.

Ms. Brown is a past president of the National Bar Association and the first Black woman elected as president of the American Bar Association. A longstanding champion for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), Ms. Brown made significant strides in this regard during her tenure as ABA President. Her bold and courageous leadership paved the way for groundbreaking changes in the American legal profession and justice system because of the many DEI initiatives she spearheaded.

Dr. McNeil is Professor Emerita of History at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where she was the first Black tenure-track faculty member in the University’s History department. She is a scholar of African-American and U.S. Constitutional history, whose scholarship focused on issues of race, law and social movements, including the essential role of the Black lawyer in American history. McNeil is widely known for her American Bar Association prize-winning publication Groundwork: Charles Hamilton Houston and the Struggle for Civil Rights, which is recognized as the definitive biography of Charles Hamilton Houston.

The 2022 Annual Law Day Dinner promises to be an incredible evening of legal excellence that you will not want to miss. The event will begin at 6:30 with a cocktail reception. The program and a formal three-course dinner will follow at 7:30, and the evening will conclude with a nightcap jazz reception.

Individual tickets are sold out. A limited number of sponsorships remain available. Program ads may be purchased through April 15 and Friend of the WBA Donations will be accepted until May 7. Click the links below for additional details.

Contribution dollars that exceed the value of the dinner will be considered a tax-deductible charitable gift to the Washington Bar Association Educational Foundation, Inc.
